I regret not taking a picture but I was already delaying one kid from a hot date so I just dashed to the back of the JoAnn's to peek and confirm that yes, they really have no marine vinyl. Or any vinyl, at all: the whole roll-fabrics section looked like the bottled-water aisle when a hurricane was forecast.
The store is actually a shiny new one, not quite two years old, and replaces the tiny one that the featured image is of, plus the tiny and run-down one that I used the picture of again earlier this month.
The new one is the largest store in the state, and is just ten or fifteen minutes from my house. It's bright, and shiny, and terribly understaffed... which is part of why I didn't bother asking if they were planning to restock. (The other part is: corporate won't necessarily tell them the truth.) I know they've gone through a reorg, but this looks more like a change in direction for that department than a hiccup in inventory ordering. I dunno. Maybe turnover in that product is really high and it was just wiped out quickly? We'll see.
Even if they drop marine vinyls, I also didn't take a picture of the Michael's across the street: which now has one of the by-the-yard fabric departments. (The cutting table is also the framing table which does not seem practical. You gotta keep a framing area lint-free!) And one of the things ours has a space for, though they don't have it filled yet: marine vinyl. They carry Richloom to JoAnn's Spradling, but I don't need to worry about color matching in vinyl so I'm fine with that. I think Richloom might have a little less texture, which is all to the good for me.
In the meantime, I have an order of marine vinyl and whatnot from Big Z Fabric arriving this week, including a batch of microsuedes because yep: I'm going to make dragons again.
