While both Ko-Fi and Patreon have shops where non-members can buy items (and in fact I used Ko-Fi as shop-only before ever getting into the subscription model), I've gotten some recent feedback that people assume my designs are only available in the subscription format. Which, if you've looked at my membership numbers, is definitely not enough to sustain me.
I've had the on-site shop pages set up to give it more of a "these are items you can buy" feel, but that doesn't give a unified shopping cart, and it doesn't get me much publicity. Facebook/Instagram referrals are all but dead, I'm not on Twitter, Bluesky and Cara are mostly artists talking to artists... things are not good on the social media front.
So it's time to look at Shopify for a cart, and Etsy for marketplace referral, I guess. Let's see how they're doing!
... oh.
WELL at least Etsy is trying to get the AI spammers and drop-shippers kicked o... oh, no, they're just going to classify them. Fine, at least I'll be differentiated from them.
Designed by a seller: Original designs by a seller (or seller-prompted AI art)
... oh. Oh no.
Yeah, my embroidery designs are lumped in with all the AI-generated T-shirt sellers. Cool!
We live in the dumbest dystopia.
