Not panic buying

Fri, 04 Apr 2025

The team who moved us can testify: I have enough fabric to last me a lifetime and then some. I don't need to panic buy because JoAnn is closing. I don't need to panic buy because a president is doing exactly what he said he'd do during his campaign. I really don't.

And, honestly: I haven't. I haven't been to a JoAnn since early in the bankruptcy, when I picked up fleece for someone who needed a specific color their store didn't have. And I didn't buy myself anything that time.

But I did buy a batch of Raspberry Pi stuff, to put together some ready-to-go kits to make USB sticks that can be written to over wifi. If you're new here: my embroidery machines have single-board computers plugged into their USB ports, and when I drag-and-drop to a special folder on my desktop or laptop, the files appear on the embroidery machine. Even my MC550e, which I am pretty sure has wifi built in, has its own SBC because it's just way easier than the onboard stuff. No special software, it just shows up in the Windows Explorer like magic (or its Linux or Mac equivalent).

Anyway, I didn't really stock up, but I did pick up some tiny screens for status reports, because they're intimidatingly nerdy at the moment. But really, I'm going to put a web front-end on it that will make it SO much easier to work with... and that will let you manage your embroidery designs from it as well. And I'll print some enclosures for it,
