Slow progress is still progress!
I had hoped to have Dragonheart refreshed and relisted by today but so far I have just gotten the new head pieces stitched and cut out. That's pretty good progress, and I might still finish it by the end of the day, but on the other hand I might just set it aside until tomorrow.
You see, I am pretty sure that in furnituremaking they cut this fabric with a heat knife of some sort, to seal the edges. Cutting it with scissors releases all the trimmed velvet pile fibers into the air, where they immediately settle in the back of your throat and tickle. There's no way an upholsterer could do this all day without either some serious PPE and dust-collection, or by using something that fuses as it cuts instead of releasing. That's only practical at furniture-level scale, not for a tiny exposed-seam art doll.
I planned the cutting for this morning before my shower, donned my Flo-Mask, sat in front of the big Coway filter, and when I was done, wiped all the edges down with a damp paper towel (which immediately turned fuchsia). And then I immediately went upstairs, stripped out of my slightly-fuchsia clothes... and before I got into the shower I felt The Tickle.
Next time I will also wipe my face down with a damp paper towel, I guess. The velvet is beautiful, doubly so in darker colors where it really shines, but I'm afraid it's not worth all this.
In any case: a trial run of Cosclay should arrive this afternoon, so we'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll fall back in love with the plastic arts and sell off all the embroidery machines and whatnot.
... yeah, probably not.
