More on Star Baby

Fri, 20 Dec 2024

I had a question about the terminology on Star Baby, so figure I should clear it up for everybody.

The free Demo Pack includes all the basic flat-sewn (sometimes called "die cut") types of things: usually Charm, Plaque, and Bunting. The original Star Baby makes a Waldorf-ish doll, a three-dimensional, two-hooping plushie that can sit up. In the picture above, the gingerbread baby is polyfil-stuffed, while the yellow one is a floppy bean-stuffed one. The velvet one is a bean-stuffed Charm, originally made by simply skipping the first hooping but now in its own file type. The felt and glitter versions in the back are Plaques, which were sort of an afterthought back then.

Most of the new designs are aimed at non-Plush types; if you really want a sitting anthrophomorphized Linzer cookie I guess you can make one though. Here's what I've got on my testing queue:

First up is a 3D Santa: there's a single (for each size) "StarBaby3D_Plush..." file that is the first hooping, and then I've chosen the Santa design. This combo uses the instructions in the original archive, and is what I need to write up to get the expansion out of Preview. The rest are basic flat types: "Small" is the smallest size I expect the applique to work at, so a Linzer cookie charm, "Tiny" is the smallest size I expect the faces to work at, so a tree and snowfriend charm, and not much will work at "Bead" size but maybe some little iced-cookie earrings in vertical bunting will work.

Haven't seen the "BuntingVBead" files at work? Here's the Ghost and Skull (no, I still haven't gotten silvertone fishhooks to actually finish these).
