Stitch auditing

Mon, 30 Oct 2023

One of the problems with ADHD is keeping track of details. But that's what computers are for.

I have my routine down pretty well: seam lines get a fine 1:1 dash, basting gets a 1:2 dash, bean stitch gets a 2:1 dash, every color gets its own layer. But there's no way to actually enforce that linkage. Ink/Stitch only cares that a running stitch is dashed, not which dash style is used. So I wrote a little Perl script that reads the SVG (it's just an XML file, there are plenty of parsers for those) and makes sure it meets my standards.

I've also changed the way I do the Stitch Color box, so the text will match the Placeholder colors (for those of you who have color screens, anyway). You can see in the Star Baby that there's a whole lot of "color changes" but not a lot of physically re-threading. The chart gives you the color number, the text color gives you the placeholder, the word tells you what the real color should be, and the color block gives you a quick reference to it.

All of which is to say: I am streamlining the process of making charm/ornament/garland type designs, so I can do more of them without eating up all my time.
