Magnolia McGee, Slug

Magnolia McGee: a slug "plushie," made with iridescent dancewear fabric.

Magnolia McGee, Slug

Magnolia McGee is a slug. She's neither a banana slug (though she's shaped like one) nor a common garden slug (though she's the color of one). She is a one-of-a-kind art doll slug, inspired by the Skype A Scientist 2026 Snail Facts Calendar.

She is made of foiled dancewear fabric, giving her a unique sluggy skin. Under diffuse light (such as my lightbox), the foiling shows up as shiny transparent scales over the dark blue-black fabric. Under more directional light, such as sunlight or regular indoor lighting, the iridescent foil shimmers with a rainbow of refracted colors, just like the slime layer of a slug. (I am confident that the manufacturer of that fabric never thought that comparison would be made.)

Her eyes are faux-anodized glass beads; they echo the colors of her sunlit scales but do not color-shift. She's almost ten inches long as the crow flies.

Purchasing this critter works a little differently than my usual collectibles: I am not selling her, but giving her away to someone who makes a donation to Skype a Scientist. Donate enough to match at least three classrooms (or more! it's a good cause!) and let me know you've done so and where to mail your slug, and she's yours.

The usual disclaimer: Despite its toy-like appearance, this is an adult collectible with small parts that could pose a choking hazard. Made in a smoke-free but cat-occupied home from an original Silver Seams pattern. The props are just for scale and not included in this listing. The cat hair is also not included but will probably be sent to you despite my best efforts. You are buying one (rather large) slug.
