Etsy strike?

Etsy strike?

Apparently there’s an Etsy strike happening next week. I’m still looking into it, but I’ll probably participate. It’s not a big stretch for me; I’ve been not-so-gradually moving off the platform already, along with every other established seller I know. I’ll probably write up a more extensive entry on the technical details behind my switch to Shopify soon.

Here’s how I handle Etsy, as a buyer, based on what I know as a seller:

  • If a seller has a different platform, I buy there instead. (Dear Etsy: I don’t overlap inventory between my shops, so I’m not recommending people do this on mine. Don’t cancel my shop for “fee avoidance” nonsense.)
  • I surf Etsy from a private browser when I’m not actually buying, so it’s not setting cookies that link my account to the ads it shows me (which I ignore anyway).
  • I have a very effective ad-blocker (uBlock Origin) so I’m not seeing Etsy’s off-site ads nor getting cookies set from them.

I’m also going to avoid Etsy during the strike - it’s also a boycott.
