A grid of same-color stitching is another way to pin down the pile of minky or terry so the decorative stitching shows clearly. It has the advantage over water-soluble stabilizer that it will also keep neighboring pile from overhanging the stitching. It’s a built-in feature of Embrilliance, but for those of us who can’t use that for financial or compatibility reasons, it can be done in Ink/Stitch too. Here’s how.

“Cheater” minky sewing
Cutting out stretchy, fuzzy minky patterns is enough of a hassle that many people turn to a Cricut Maker. We all know how that went here, though. I have a different solution, of course: using the sewing robot. This came up on Facebook so I figured I’d write it out in the blog for posterity. […]
Dragon rainbow
Yep, still at work in the dragon mines. More interesting stuff next week, I promise.
Cut-and-sew pug instructions
The minky version of the cut-and-sew pug arrived today and it’s officially available for purchase, so here are the instructions. They’re printed on the fabric as well, but as soon as I clear my plate a little I’ll stitch one up, take pictures of the process, and flesh this entry out a little more. In […]
Dead soldiers
Not too many new things to show off because I’m still burning through spools of thread getting the shop restocked. But this lineup reminded me about thread buying. The two Gütermann spools on the left are from one of the multi-packs fabric stores tend to carry, heavily discounted, around Christmas. At some point I decided […]
Today in “weird things to embroider on”: clothesline
Not bad for a test run.
The new dragons are here!
I still have some photography and listing-updating to do, but this batch of dragons is done. A couple of orders are going out to more Pern fans (hence the particular color selection of this batch). It’s always interesting to see what people choose as their particular vision of what the dragons look like. Bronze is […]
Happy Labor Day!
Because I am not in a labor union, I have to work today. The good news is, the 4″ standing dragons will be restocked this week, at least in this color range (except for Gritty Dragon, he’s just photobombing). The bad news is, my machine is getting its scheduled tuneup so the 3″ babies and […]
The Cut-and-Sew… Pub?
Yesterday I checked the Spoonflower design competition, scrolled all the way to the bottom to load alllll the entries (one of which seems to be, I kid you not, solid red fabric). Then I searched for “pug” to see how mine was doing. The two entries that came up were neither of them mine. I […]
The disadvantage of the light box…
… is that it has a “horizon.” And I can’t take a straight picture to save my life. (Yes, I have the on-screen grid turned on. No, apparently I can’t remember to check it.)
